Day 2: The Plant Assassins are Born!!!!

We stumbled out of bed at 7 o' clock and made a breakfast of scrambled duck eggs and toast. We had the yogurt with the strawberries we picked the day before. We made and packed our lunch and we went off the work!

We met our outdoor education coordinator, Sarah, and the local interns, Katherine, Ellen, and Spencer. We also met the regional coordinator, Pat, and the office secretary, Debbie, who ensured that our move-in was smooth and all our necessities were met.

Our morning started with the meeting of a local author, Laurie Lawlor, who wrote This Tender Place -- a book about Pickeral Lake where the Nature Conservancy preserve and office are located. She gave us signed copies of her book and led a journaling session.

We went to the East Troy High School to get our working papers. Due to a massive thunderstorm, the school lost power and we felt like we were in a bad horror movie.

We met up with the local interns and ate lunch with them. We shared our fresh strawberries with them and then went around the Pickeral Lake preserve and pulled Queen Anne's Lace, mullen, sweet clover, knappweed, and thistle (that Marissa really hates) with Sarah and Marissa.

After a day of hard work we had a quick tour of Pickeral Lake.

We went home and made dinner, cream cheese and pesto stuffed chicken with steamed broccoli and salad.

We are now going to start our 80's movie education with Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
